Centre for youth promoting health and safety

The Yarmouth Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) will hold a Health and Safety Week from Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18. The SCCY Health and Safety Week aims to promote health and safety in the workplace to both young workers and employers.

“Many people do not know the importance of health and safety in the workplace,” said Melinda Crowell, youth services officer. “We want to provide information to young workers and employers alike about their health and safety rights and responsibilities in the workplace.”

The Yarmouth SCCY will be in the community this week, at the following locations:

• Monday, July 14, and Tuesday July 15 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Saulnier’s Home Hardware, where they will be hosting a health and safety information booth.

• Wednesday, July 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Museé Acadien de Pubnico, where they will be hosting a health and safety information booth along with Museé activities.

• Thursday, July 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Killam Brothers wharf, where they will be promoting health and safety at Seafest’s children’s boat building contest.

• Friday, July 18, from 10 to 12 p.m. at Sobeys, where they will be bagging groceries.

Service Canada Centres for Youth link youth and employers. Along with providing information about health and safety in the workplace, the centres provide young people with job postings, interview advice, résumé building and job search strategies and employers with a location to post job openings on jobbank.gc.ca.

Employers and youth who want more information can visit the Yarmouth SCCY between 8:00am and 4:00pm at 13 Willow St., call (902) 742-6896, fax (902) 742-0815, or e-mail melinda.crowell@servicecanada.gc.ca or lise.dentremont@servicecanada.gc.ca.
